Our Start

Shane Stone opened Stone’s German Garage in 2007 to provide his expertise, share his passion for auto engineering, and guarantee the quality one should expect from a mechanic. All technicians are certified and participate in ongoing training. In addition to a commitment to exacting standards, he supports and nurtures gender equality in a traditionally male-dominated field. His daughter Lily, demonstrating enthusiasm and talent for the profession, wrenches alongside other technicians. And his daughter Mariah, exhibiting a passion for people and the garage, manages vital administrative and service advisory functions at the shop. As a small family business, the Stone’s are dedicated to creating enduring relationships with customers, employees, other small businesses, and the Ballard community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Building with a sign for Stones German Garage, offering Sprinter service, featuring a logo with a gear, wrenches, and a Mercedes-Benz emblem.
  • All Sprinter Models:

    • Dodge ProMasters

    • Ford Transits

    • Nissan NV’s

  • We use OEM parts and do not install customer-supplied parts unless agreed upon in advance.

While parts may be found online at lower prices, they are not from our trusted suppliers. Because we receive regular deliveries from suppliers we know and trust, we can depend on timely delivery and quality control.

Most importantly, parts from our suppliers are typically warrantied for one year. This allows us to warranty both parts and labor for one year in most cases.

  • We do not repair vehicles based solely on diagnoses made by customers or other shops.

If you request that we complete a repair based on another shop’s diagnosis, you will be responsible for the repair regardless of whether that diagnosis turns out to be incorrect.

  • Our regular business hours are 8AM–5PM, Monday through Friday.

We recommend dropping off closer to 8AM if you are hoping for same-day service.

If you are dropping off before or after business hours, please leave your key in the mail slot on the front of the garage door along with your name, contact information, and a brief description of the services requested.

  • Unless otherwise agreed upon prior to repairs, vehicles must be picked up within two business days after you are notified that work is complete.

Vehicles not picked up after two business days will incur a $25 per day storage fee.

  • We do not provide towing services or operate tow trucks.

We recommend Hubie’s Towing (206.529.7321), who we and our customers have found to be honest and reliable.

If your vehicle is being towed to our shop, please contact us first so we can confirm availability and make space if needed.

  • Yes — we have one loaner vehicle available.

If you would like to use it while your car is being serviced, please schedule your appointment as far in advance as possible.

Please return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel it had when you picked it up. If you use toll roads, keep track of the tolls and pay them when you return the vehicle. Otherwise, we will charge your credit card once the Good to Go bill arrives.

We have teamed up with a fantastic wood working team, Rydawell Woodworks. They specialize in Sprinter build-outs and are located in our shared space. Stop by and chat with them or check out their website for more info.

request service

Please call or submit the form to request service for your vehicle. Model, make, VIN and manufacturing date are required for us to quickly identify service and parts.

  • The car's vehicle identification number (VIN) is the identifying code for a SPECIFIC automobile. The VIN serves as the car's fingerprint, as no two vehicles in operation have the same VIN. A VIN is composed of 17 characters (digits and capital letters) that act as a unique identifier for the vehicle. A VIN displays the car's unique features, specifications and manufacturer.

The VIN can be found by looking at the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle. The easiest way to view it is to stand outside the vehicle on the driver's side and look at the corner of the dashboard where it meets the windshield. You can also find your VIN on your insurance card or on your registration.

  • On most vehicles, the date of manufacture is found on a sticker attached to the car frame and is visible when the driver's side door is open.

Open the door, and look for stickers on the car frame near the door latch post (U-shaped bolt). There probably will be more than one.
